Resuscitation of cryopreserved mouse embryos to generate mouse colony: Receiving and storing frozen embryos in LN2, thawing up to 2 straws, culturing embryos, perform up to 3 embryo transfers, housing offspring until weaning. Per diem costs will be charged extra.

Producing life offspring from cryopreserved sperm through IVF (1 litter): Per diem costs will be charged extra.

Generate life offspring from fresh embryos: Receiving fresh embryos, performing embryo transfers into recipient foster mothers upon arrival. Housing offspring until weaning. Per diem costs will be charged extra.

Rederivation of mouse strain by embryo transfer: to generate pathogen free mouse lines. Per diem costs will be charged extra.

To initiate a Strain Rederivation Job please fill out the Service Request Form, and  forward the signed form to the GMF office at GMFmail@fas.harvard.edu, as an email attachment or fax to (617) 384-5008.

 Investigator Responsibilities:

  1. For frozen embryos: arrange for shipment of 2 straws of frozen embryos from the supplier to the GMF laboratory in dry LN2 shipping container. Solicit veterinary report on SPF status of sender facility. (Investigator carries the costs for returning the dry LN2 shipping container).
  2. Receiving live blastocysts at ambient temperature: arrange with supplier for availability of strain and approximate timeframe. GMF will schedule the time of shipping.

GMF Responsibilities:

  1. Schedule shipping embryos with sender.
  2. Receive embryos in quarantine (Pod 9), and perform embryo transfers into pseudopregnant recipient mice.
  3. Transfer recipient animals to FAS-OAR to follow up with serology. OAR will initiate transfer of animals to investigator colony after serology testing has been completed.
