Economical Solution for Freezing Embryos and Sperm:
GMF will freeze embryos from one mating experiment of 5-10 female mice, age 3 to 20 weeks, and 5-10 males, age 6 to 20 weeks, to produce approximately 50 to 100 embryos which will be frozen in 2 to 4 straws. Epidydimal sperm from one male will be frozen in 5 vials.
Standard Embryo Cryopreservation:
Be sure to have 5-10 fertile males, age 6 to 20 weeks, and at least 10-20 females, age 3 to 8 weeks from the desired strain. We will produce approximately 250 embryos by natural mating, freeze 2-cell embryos in up to 12 straws by control rate freezing, test thaw 2 straws, implant into pseudopregnant recipients to produce live offspring. Straws can be stored in the GMF cryostorage tank, which is secured and alarmed, for an annual fee.
Cryopreservation of Embryos produced by IVF (SpeedCryo):
We require at least two males, age 6 to 20 weeks, experienced. Arrange with OAR for transfer of the males to the GMF colony. We will then produce approximately 250 embryos by IVF using fresh sperm, freeze 2-cell embryos in up to 12 straws by control rate freezing, test-thaw 2 straws, implant into pseudopregnant recipients to produce live offspring. Straws will be stored in GMF cryostorage tank.
We require two males, age 8 to 20 weeks, with successful mating experience. Arrange with OAR to transfer male mice to GMF colony. Epididymal sperm will be frozen in 10 vials or straws, which can be stored in the GMF liquid nitrogen-storage tank for a yearly fee.
To initiate transfer of animals into the GMF colony for embryo production or for the collection of sperm, please download the Animal Transfer Request Form, fill in required information and submit to the Office of Animal Resources (OAR) for processing by sending a fax to (617) 495-4218.
